Guest Blog Post by Teri Gunn, Co-Owner and Baker at Lillie’s Sweet Shop

Lillie's Sweet Shop logoLillie’s Sweet Shop, a bakery that recently opened in McMinnville, is owned by the mother and daughter team of Teri Gunn and Mikylah GunnSmith. Why the name Lillie? It’s a family name, both Teri and Mikylah have it as a middle name, with Mikylah being a 5th generation Lillie.

Our tagline and business motto is Make Life Sweet and we work hard everyday to do just that, in our high quality baked goods and in the way we interact with those around us. One of the ways we do that is through our monthly benevolence program. Each month we select a local non-profit, design a custom cupcake to represent them or their mission, and give a portion of the profits to them at the end of the month.

For the month of July we want to show our thanks to veterans who have served our country and defend our freedom through their sacrifice. Here in McMinnville there is an organization called Iron Sharpens Iron. It is a fellowship open to veterans of all ages and genders. The members gather to support each other and use the Bible to make sense out of their life experiences. They meet each Thursday at 2:00 and 6:00 pm at Baker Creek Community Church. For more information about Iron Sharpens Iron, contact John Branch at 480-707-2015.

These specially designed patriotic cupcakes will be red velvet or vanilla cake with our signature vanilla buttercream in red, white and blue and topped with gummy stars. They will be available throughout the month of July. Our customers can place an order for these specially designed patriotic cupcakes by calling/texting us at 971.241.9034 or by sending a message through Facebook messenger. If you are planning a 4th of July celebration and want a special sweet treat for your guests, these would be perfect. Contact us by July 1st to be sure to get your order placed in time for the holiday.

Upcoming recipients of our benevolence program will be Cruising McMinnville in August, Seeds of Hope for childhood cancer awareness month in September, and With Courage for breast cancer awareness month in October. We are open to suggestions for other organizations to consider, please let us know if you’d like to make a recommendation.
